What
are We?
"Shamanic
journeying with Quynn has been a powerful experience for
me. I have gotten in touch with animal guides and answers
to questions about current issues in my life, sometimes
through images and sometimes through words. The sounding
journeys have been especially moving. The energy seems to
emanate from deep within the body through the toning and
there is an interplay among the energies in the circle,
which seems to extend into that timeless dimension in
which we are connected with all. I was amazed at the
sounds that came from within, effortlessly. The voicing
of my pain, sadness, joy, etc., became one with the
emotions of other women of other times and places. Quynn
holds the space in a masterful way and it always feels
totally safe. I feel free to express whatever comes."
Susan in Tucson
The Institute for the Shamanic Arts was founded by
modern shamanic intuitive Quynn Elizabeth in 1998. Its'
purpose is to seek out and train individuals who want to
improve their natural abilities in the shamanic arts* and
to educate the public about the shamanic arts, their
usefulness to individuals as well as their benefits to
the community. This education happens through classes,
performances, lectures, and adventures in
Nature.
*The
shamanic arts explore modern applications and benefits
(emotional, mental, physical and spiritual) of
consciously voyaging into the wilderness of one's mind
for the purposes of healing, increasing communication
skills and inspiring art.
What
do we offer?
"I feel
more connected with the Universe than ever before! And I
know that this is just the beginning of my quest. I can
see now how important it is for every person to learn how
to communicate with their inner world. Thank you for
showing me how!!!"
Alan, Computer Programmer
The
Institute for the Shamanic Arts offers a series of
beginning classes, as well as circles, classes and
workshops which focus on various aspects of the modern
shamanic arts (for detailed workshop schedule, go to
"Class
Schedule").
In addition to education, ISA offers a full spectrum of
shamanic support through Mentoring, Counseling and
Gatherings.
The
Institute for the Shamanic Arts' offerings help each
student:
- Establish
contact with your inner wilderness
- Teach
your mind and heart how to strengthen your
intuition
- Understand
how the Universe speaks directly to you
- Remember
your pre-religion ancestry and learn how it applies to
your life
- Learn to
use your natural abilities and to understand
Nature
- Research
our collective and individual ancestral past
- Co-Create
a present and future that are in alignment with the
principles of Earth.
The
Institute for the Shamanic Arts is looking for people who
feel that they have been called to learn about and

What to Expect
If you are looking to find a place to study, The
Institute for the Shamanic Arts might be a place for you,
however, you should know what to expect.
Housing: The Institute does not have living
facilities for students, nor does it provide housing
assistance. If you feel called to come to Tucson for this
purpose, either for a visit, or for an extended stay, do
your research and be prepared. One can only study
effectively if one's fundamental needs, such as shelter
and food, are taken care of.
One option, for those who are coming to Tucson for a
short visit (between one and seven days) is to stay in
WomanKraft's guest suite. The WomanKraft building is a
1918 Queen Anne Victorian house and the guest suite
(upstairs) is a delightful place to stay. The cost is $40
a night ($30 for artists) and includes use of the kitchen
and bathroom, with a claw foot bathtub. To find out more,
or to schedule a stay, email Quynn.
Study Style: If you are looking for instruction
about a particular cultural style of shamanizing and you
are hoping Quynn will 'teach' you, ISA is not the
place for you. Quynn does not teach any particular
culture's approach, and she does not teach any student
'her' ways. Quynn is interested in each student listening
within to find their own way to shamanize. If you are
interested in furthering your study within a circle of
others who are studying their own ways, then
ISA might be a place for you.
Where
are We, When?
"What a
magical environment, right in the heart of Tucson. Your
location (the beautiful WomanKraft Castle) reminds me of
a Harry Potter House, created by women! A perfect setting
for the shamanic arts" Billie, Consultant
The Institute for the Shamanic Arts is located at the
WomanKraft Art Center in the heart of Tucson, AZ.
WomanKraft, a Non Profit Arts Organization, was founded
in 1974 to claim, validate, and empower women artists and
other under represented groups. It is a perfect home for
the magical realm of the shamanic artist and poet. Quynn
is pleased to be a part of WomanKraft's inspiring
endeavor.
Between
October and April, classes happen in Tucson, Arizona.
When June comes, The Institute for the Shamanic Arts goes
on the road. Quynn breaks camp in Tucson and migrates
North for the summer, offering Nature/Art workshops and
ritual events in places of cultural significance and
natural beauty around the Western United States.

Shamanic
Testimonial
On
October 31st, 2001, I was sitting at home and saying to
myself that I needed a life. Just for the heck of it, I
decided I would make 13 phone calls that day. I pored
through the back page of the Tucson Weekly ( a local
newspaper) to get me started. Many things had piqued my
interest: polarity therapy; shiatsu; hypnosis. At the
time I had no experience or knowledge of "shamans", no
more than anyone else. There was an ad for "Shamanic
Journeying", by someone named Quynn. I had felt an urge
and a call to participate in something greater than life
as I knew it, and after reading only the few words of her
advertisement, I felt drawn to telephone her.
From
that call, we arranged an individual meeting, and, the
next week, I went to her shamanic journeying circle,
offered through The Institute of the Shamanic Arts.
Directly due to that very first journey (listed in
'Journeys'), I have since then felt an interconnectedness
with my human and divine selves, I have, since then,
understood that there is a spiritual connection between
myself and all of humanity, and I have since had a
reconnection with women energy.
A year ago, I was sitting at home, alone, tired and
bored. I had no urge to create, I had no friends, and I
had little stimulation to go beyond those boundaries of
safety I had set for myself. Quynn, the shamana-woman,
welcomed my presence and encouraged my very being to
soar. I could not have believed that a life could be so
changed, but it happened to me.
Since that one little phone call, in the past year, the
women of WomanKraft have inspired me and supported me in
all of my creative endeavors and continue to provide a
place of kind voices, bright eyes, appreciation, and
hugs. One little phone call.
That is all I did, and yet look at all that came from
it.
